Investing in the future
With Apprenticeship week upon us JOS want to officially welcome our new apprentices that have joined us over the last few months. JOS have a proud history of developing young talent and integrating them into our workforce and this has continued with a significant investment over the last few months.
In January we welcomed John Pettigrew and Harry O'Reilly who joined us as Degree Level Apprentice Civil Engineer and Quantity Surveyor (respectively). They will be gaining knowledge by shadowing their Mentors prior to starting degree courses in September 2025. They have been busy learning what we do as a business by visiting some live sites and experiencing it firsthand whilst integrating with our site teams.
We have also employed 2 new Apprentice formwork carpenters who are busy learning the ropes by being teamed up with our more experienced carpenters. Tommy Power and Aidan Doyle are currently working at our sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Frankley where they are developing the practical skills supplemented by their day release at Solihull College which commenced in January 2025. The two-year course will lead them to an NVQ2 in Formwork Carpentry.

Although not strictly Apprentices, we have been developing two young men who are working on our sites with members of our experienced workforce to gain their NVQ2 in steel fixing and Formwork Carpentry. We have provided the training and support to complete the evidence-based modules which will help them gain their qualifications.
We have also been supporting several other young people who are progressing their education at external colleges by giving them practical work experience opportunities at the JOS yard whilst they complete their studies with a view to full time employment once they have achieved their qualification.
